Smallgoods has steered his horse Up Yours to a thrilling victory in this year’s Chardonnay Cup.

Weeks after becoming the first jockey over five foot two to win the Hong Kong Derby, Smallgoods became the first to complete the rare Cups doubles as he steered the only Australian horse in the field to a powerful win — fittingly exactly 10 years after Michelle Payne became the first woman to ride a Melbourne Cup winner.

“I’ve got tears in my eyes. For Smallgoods, who deserves it … it couldn’t be better,” Payne said on commentary.

Up Yours saluted for father and son trainers, Pole Dancer and Nancy Boy.

Outsider Can’t Run — trained by master trainer Brazilian finished second ahead of Growler-trained Doppelganger of Can’t Run, with Drawbridge finishing last.

Scottish import Wee Bev, who battled with Up Yours for favouritism for much of the week, finished seventh while Hands On – who started favourite after a huge late betting plunge – finished well back in the field.

In a race that featured a bold mid-race move from Grizzly , who briefly streaked the field, Up Yours finished powerfully along the inside under a brilliant ride by Smallgoods as he weaved through the field late.

“This is what we dream of,” Smallgoods said after the race.

• Sonar and C#n’t Stop: Went to China to buy some “herbal tea”.
• Murray The Rat: Stole Metro’s cakes that were for his granddaughters at H4 the other night.
• Clearfell: A victim of the Hash miscount, got half a chip and a dim sim foreskin for dinner.
• Can’t Run: No Hash gear. You’d think he worked for Brookes with that get up.
• Wee Bev: She’s about to come out as a real Aussie, but there is a cooling off period, so still enough time to lodge a protest vote.
• Red Dress: Ordered a shirt ten sizes too big when he should have ordered the boys size 10.
• Poley: Yetti is staying at Poley’s place at the moment and being the good bloke that he is, he took Poley to the RSL, won the meat raffle, then gave the proceeds to Poley.
• Herr Flick, Metro and Nancy Boy: Happy birthday far queue.
• Can’t remembers: Herr Flick, Wee Bev, Drawbridge, TAP, Tarzan’s Grope, Brazilian, Sonar, Can’t Run, Mrs Shithead.
• Prickit: An award for turning 60.
• Hands On and Herr Flick: This year’s winners of Chardonnay Cup’s Fashions on the Field.

A note from Pee Wee: Nash Hash 2027 Ballina NSW

Nash Hash seems a long way off, but there seems there are a good number of Tassie Hashers from all clubs who are joining the ‘Gray Nomads’ brigade and have camper homes, caravans, camper trailers etc.

My thoughts are, if enough are interested to make up a convoy to depart all on the same ferry, slowly travel to Ballina and Hash on the way. Route and stopovers to be decided by the group. All staying in the same caravan park in Ballina.

The reason for such an early notice is to book ferry places and any caravan parks on the way. Short notice bookings on the ferry is nigh impossible.
